Face Shields and Rave-Ready Looks From Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2021
Dolce & Gabbana are known for their unapologetically loud style, and this season saw the designers take their aesthetic and twist it with the “look-at-me” outfits of the nightlife scene, filtered through their interpretation of digital and robotic technology. Titled “Next Chapter”, the show was a defiantly exuberant display of clothes for going out and to have fun in—a clear message of positivity for fall.
But how did these disparate visions play out on the runway? As it turns out, technology was the common unifier for this season. The classic Dolce & Gabbana silhouettes and designs were fed through the computer, where shapes, volumes, patterns and prints were glitched, resulting in a physical expression of digital design on the runway.
The colour palette of the collections was decidedly futuristic as well—a dominating theme on the runway was the use of metallics (their nod to the “robotic”) that took on a holographic sheen on jackets and trousers, while acid bright colours dripped off graffitied puffer jackets, short tight cocktail dresses and accessories (a sure hit this FW21).
Particular standouts of the collection included the ludicrously oversized puffer jackets that came in metallics and leopard print, shiny, tinsel-covered coats, an arresting holographic bodysuit, and an ultra-chic face shield that is the new D&G crown accessory of the season.
“Fashion has always been the result of the confluence of worlds that can be very far from each other,” the designers said in a joint statement of the collection. “If technology is truly serving the man, his needs and his passions, then a craftsman and a robot will be able to coexist”.
Here, we pick the most madcap, modern looks from Dolce & Gabbana that will leave you yearning for the heart-thumping beats of the club.
