Fashion maven Dennis Lustico reveals his latest collection through Pamana, a fashion show held at the Goldenberg Mansion
Esteemed couturier Dennis Lustico made history last October 3 when he became the fourth fashion designer to hold a show at the Goldenberg Mansion with his latest collection, Pamana. This honour to celebrate Lustico’s 25 years in the industry at such a historic venue is all thanks to First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
Pamana featured 50 remarkable handwoven pieces in pure Lustico style, paying homage to Philippine heritage and craftsmanship. Forty designs for women and ten for men were showcased in different executions, such as dresses, tops, oversized blouses and ensembles, made of indigenous fabrics from areas like Aklan and Lumban.

Tapestries in patterns of native flowers like gumamela (hibiscus) and kalabasa (pumpkin) leaves further established the Filipino theme that was the heart of the collection. Moringa and anahaw details completed the embroideries, as well as small wooden squares resembling the stone houses in Batanes. “We want to express Filipino flair through colours and textures,” Lustico explained.

Veering away from the usual terno or baro’t saya, the designer combined local and traditional with contemporary and timeless. “The collection is distinctly Filipino but also relatable to a global audience. I imagine some of my pieces being worn abroad, standing out because of the elements that tell the Filipino story,” he said.

While the show celebrates Lustico’s silver year and elevates the beauty of Filipino style and design, it’s also a commitment to Fashion Aid Philippines, a non-profit organisation for aspiring designers. Together with the event chairwoman, Consul Agnes Huibonhua, the designer stays true to his advocacy and wants to give back to the creative community through Pamana.

The hustle before and on the day of the event did not stop Lustico from looking back on his career, “I’m thankful that I get to dress people I admire. I feel blessed to be doing what I love to do. I think that fashion design is like any other profession. You actually don’t set boundaries with what you can achieve. The mere fact that you’re doing what you like and you’re still doing it right now, is worth more than anything else. I think that’s what’s more important—the chance to be given to do what you love most.”

Apart from Araneta-Marcos, ten ambassadors to the Philippines joined in opening the silver-year salon show and walked the runway, all wearing custom outfits by Lustico. Also present at the event were Senator Mark Villar and his wife, Social Works Undersecretary Em Aglipay Villar; Ben Chan, founder and CEO of Bench; former presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar and his daughter Alexa Andanar.
