With winter just around the corner, let’s unpack one of the most anticipated collections of the season—Chemena Kamali’s homecoming collection for Chloé

Last October, news broke that Chemena Kamali will return to Chloé as its newest creative director. Having begun her career in fashion at Chloé as an intern under Phoebe Philo’s team and later rejoined in 2013 as its design director under Clare Waight Keller, Kamali’s appointment to helm the house marked a full circle moment, one that everyone knew was only destined to happen—because if there’s anyone who truly understands the essence of Chloé, it’s Kamali.

On February 29, 2024, the third day of Paris Fashion Week, Kamali debuted her homecoming collection for Chloé, titled Intuition, which would manifestly underscore her deep-rooted connection to the house.

“I want to return to the original roots of the house and build a sensual Chloé that radiates with warmth and positivity. This collection goes back to the late 1970’s era of the house that I feel so connected to. A time that was about a natural femininity. Sensual, effortlessly powerful and free. This collection is about intuition, freedom and an instinctive female energy. It’s about a Chloé with a sense of nostalgia that also mirrors the times we are living in and anticipates how women want to feel today. It’s about what feels right,” Kamali shared in her show notes.

Kamali’s vision for Chloé was evident from the very first look; a silky black leather capelet draped over a cream-hued ruffled dress with cascading long sleeves, styled with rose-coloured sunglasses, a gold statement necklace, and studded black sandals. From the juxtaposition of delicate and bold elements to the harmonious blend of femininity and functionality, this look set the tone with an air of understated cool that resonates with the modern woman—the modern Chloé woman.

The collection continued with an assemblage of sheer flowy maxi dresses and blouses, elevated denim and leather jeans, a range of outerwear in leather, knits, and cashmere, paired with thigh-high boots and clogs in a colour palette of soft, earthy hues that complemented the collection with a sense of ease and sensuality. Accessories were a key element in the collection, elevating each look with a playful touch.

The essence of Chloé has always been about embracing femininity through an eclectic fusion of contemporary casual elegance and practicality with a youthful charm, defined by a bohemian allure and a romantic flair. Kamali orchestrated a cohesive narrative that honoured Chloé’s heritage by integrating distinct elements from various eras of its history with nods to Karl Lagerfeld’s maxi coats, as well as Phoebe Philo’s bracelet bags and platform sandals, ensuring the brand remains true to its roots whilst evolving to meet the needs of modern women.
