Virginie Viard is taking Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show back home this year

There’s no place like home, and Chanel is certainly taking the adage to heart for its 2022 Métiers d’Art collection. The French luxury brand is returning to Paris to show its latest collection, with a show to be held on December 7, 2021.

Traditionally, the house’s Métiers d’Art collection has been shown in exotic locations across the world—including Edinburgh, Scotland; Mumbai, India; Rome; Shanghai; Salzburg, Austria—and last year, the brand showed in the Château de Chenonceau, in France’s Loire Valley, that just had Kristen Stewart as its only guest. The collection also usually takes its inspiration directly from the venue it is showing, so it will be interesting to see how creative director Virginie Viard distils the rich visual landscape of Paris into the new Métiers d’Art collection.

The Chanel Métiers d’Art collection is a celebration of the various specialised fashion craft houses that provide Paris’ couture houses with the skills and technical know-how for their intricately constructed collections. This includes embroiderers, feather workers, paruriers, pleaters, shoe makers, hatters and glove makers, among many others. It is the house’s commitment to preserve the artisanal heritage of these specialised craftsmen, and is the only fashion house in the world to use these techniques in a ready-to-wear collection.

One thing’s for sure: we’ve already got something to look forward to this December.
