They are icons of their generation. Actresses Margaret Qualley, Lily-Rose Depp and Whitney Peak are three independent and captivating young women whose modern vibes, unique styles and distinct personalities perfectly suit the renowned French luxury house’s latest object of desire: the Chanel 22 bag.
 
The number 22 has always held a special magic for Chanel. The maison’s founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, was a huge believer in numerology; 1922 was the year the timeless fragrance N°22 was launched, only the second olfactory offering from Chanel after the spectacularly successful N°5 debut the year before.

For 2022, Virginie Viard, artistic director of Chanel, imagines a bag that is at once stylish and practical. Combining simplicity and comfort, Chanel 22 is functional and light, crafted from supple yet durable leather. It comes in three sizes: small, medium and large; as well as a backpack iteration, in an array of delicious colours for the summer: navy blue, purple, two shades of pink, white and black.
 
This is an everyday bag that is both covetable and indispensable, closing with a magnetic button and purse-like drawstrings.  True to the unmistakable Chanel house codes, it features the signature quilt stitching and the interwoven chain and leather strap, as well as the brand's name spelt out across the bag in bold gold or metallic letters.
 
“Beautiful, timeless and practical” is how long-time Chanel muse Lily-Rose Depp describes the bag. “The inside of my bag always looks like I’ve stuffed my entire life in it,” she says. “I love that [it] has the space to carry books, notebooks, makeup, whatever your heart desires. I also think it’s so chic.”

Margaret Qualley loves that the Chanel 22 even fits a laptop. She calls the bag “a perfect example of Virginie’s natural ability to create pieces that empower women, that accommodates a woman’s every need.  It’s made for a woman who works and reads and maybe even carries around snacks or a colouring book for her kids, all while looking stylish as heck.”

For rising star Whitney Peak, the Chanel 22 might be her favourite product from the brand so far; it suits her on-the-go New York lifestyle. She says she’s not a “purse girl,” except for formal events. Instead, she’s “a huge fan of functional pieces” and looks for flexibility so she can “travel with my life in my bag.”

She adds that she loves the colours and textures, and that the bag captures everything she loves most about Chanel: “I think Virginie is brilliant, and it really shows she has lots of fun creating and experimenting with different silhouettes and cuts, tapping into both the youthful and strong sides of Chanel."
