The Brunello Cucinelli Spring Summer 2023 collection is a masterclass in the sartorial splendours of a globetrotter’s wardrobe
You can always rely on revered Italian fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli to capture the mood of the zeitgeist–and most certainly via his inimitable elegant aesthetic. As the go-to label for power dressing in this new era of 21st century smart casual sartorial codes, the beloved label is embraced by established women as well as the younger generation who embrace sustainability and well-made clothes that transcend short-lived trends.
No surprises that some of the world’s most iconic females, from Oprah Winfrey and Maye Musk to younger millennials including Ana de Armas and Sadie Sink have been spotted in the marque’s subtly luxurious clothing.
For Spring Summer 2023, Brunello Cucinelli draws inspiration from the concept of a “female explorer” to create a collection to keep the modern globetrotter stylishly outfitted on her next expedition in just about every situation imaginable.

Striking a masterful balance between classic and contemporary sensibilities, the Cucinelli ateliers showcase functional yet innovative designs derived from nautical and adventurer uniforms.
The collection is tied together via a discreet colour palette that features the distinctive Brunello Cucinelli range of beiges from nuanced warm cream and camel tones to cooler shades of light grey and greige. This is accented with the judicious use of graphic black as well as mirrored surfaces and a new painterly metallic pattern that resembles artful brushstrokes to make a statement. In addition, a series of delicate pastel tones of lavender, sage, water and rose offer an element of sophisticated femininity to the collection.
True to the maestro’s ethos, every look is constructed with the highest quality materials by the industry’s most respected artisans to showcase the refined and luxurious hallmarks of the brand.

“High-end craftsmanship is one of our main focuses, and we support it every way we can; we’ve even founded a school to keep the savoir faire alive and taught to a young generation of artisans,” says Carolina Cucinelli, the brand’s co-creative director and daughter of Brunello.
This is most evident in knitwear—the heart and soul of the brand, which was after all built on the foundation of the finest cashmere known to mankind. This season’s range of couture knitwear takes this sometimes utilitarian technique to the next level by stretching the capabilities of the Cucinelli artisans to the limit in order to create unprecedented effects never seen before. For instance, stylised patterns inspired by the shapes of marine vegetation are created via textured embroidery or crochet stitches.

New techniques are also used to create an effect akin to the transparency of lace and netting and can be seen in tops, jumpers and tunics. The brand has also created fluid fabrics that help to soften masculine tailoring for a relaxed yet sensual silhouette for the adventurer who is always on the go.
This fluid tailoring comes through the interplay of tailored, form fitting pieces with bohemian elements like a softly flowing midi skirt or stylish dresses. Then, less formal elements drawn from adventure wear, such as stripes, rope details, utility pockets and nautical-inspired hats are thrown into the mix. The result: Versatile, easy-going garments that can be effortlessly dressed up or down with ease.
This season, the luxury label also introduces a new Twin Wear category - but not necessarily within the constraints of matching sets that can look overly formal in these modern times. Instead, as a casual yet refined alternative to dresses, jumpsuits and suits, the twin wear pieces offer up interesting combinations such as waistcoats paired with Bermuda shorts or longer skirts.
Even seemingly quotidian combinations, such as tops with skirts or shirts with trousers are given a refreshing twist through the use of unique textile combinations such as cotton organza with jersey and poplin or knits with linen.
Best of all, the garments have been designed such that they can be worn individually and in practically infinite combinations with other items to ensure the versatility, longevity and sustainability of one’s wardrobe. For instance, full volume-skirts or pleated miniskirts can coordinate effortlessly with blazers while garments made of taffeta or techno cotton can be worn effortlessly with plain t-shirts or breezy shirts for an elevated look with minimal styling.
And of course, no Brunello Cucinelli collection - or intrepid jetsetter’s capsule wardrobe - is complete without a selection of outfits that ooze sartorial glamour. For that, look no further than a blazer or trousers covered in sequins or sparkling lame linens that lend a touch of glow to any outfit. Take also a moment to admire how masculine tailoring details such as darts and braces are juxtaposed against feminine embellishments for some added allure.
With such a broad selection of versatile must-haves that will never look out of place from day to night and from home to foreign locale, there is no doubt that the Spring Summer 2023 collection will withstand the test of time and fickle trends alike.
