Balenciaga's 51st Haute Couture is an ode to its deconstructed and monochromatic collections from the past. Characterised by post-grunge silhouettes, every piece tailored by the luxury fashion house espouses the modern interpretation of Gazar, a silk-aluminium fabric that paved the way for Cristóbal Balenciaga's most iconic creations
The Balenciaga fall 2022 collection was nothing short of show-stopping garments paraded by mannequin-esque models in tight bodysuits and polyurethane-coated face shields. Demna's slightly unconventional approach to fashion design bore textured gowns in bright hues, sleek coats with exaggerated hips, and voluminous petticoats. In his second collection for Balenciaga, Denma made sure that Cristobál's most iconic designs from the late 50s and early 60s would stand out.
As the show concludes, a slew of familiar faces emerged—Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Naomi Campbell, Ajok Madel, Inti Wang, and arguably the most-talked-about: Nicole Kidman.

1. LOOK 48

The flagrant placements of faux feather in Look Number 48 immediately makes the piece one of the most prominent looks in Balenciaga's 51st collection. Sewn on top of a silk organza body top, the feathers give off an overpowering volume that stems from the bottom of the dress.
When worn, the attention-grabbing feathers easily deliver an intimidating look yet it helps its host give off a mystifying and slightly mysterious appeal.
2. LOOK 44

One look and this pink-coloured, slick dress immediately take us to the deepest layers of the sea where sharks rule. Look number 44 is a 'shark dress' in pink silk paired with fitted gloves in white.
Just like the cold-blooded sea creatures, the dress commands respect and intimidation but at the same time gives off a playful and sweet vibe thanks to its soft and mesmerising hue.

Look number 10, which resembles a sparkling disco ball, is a black beaded fringe embroidered top in a viscose jersey partnered with five-pocket denim pants. Despite it being a monochromatic garment, Look number 10 radiates a type of sophistication that is eye-catching but not over the top.
5. LOOK 49

The years between the 1950s and early 1960s were fondly remembered for dresses that make a woman's bust appear pointed. It is also a time when gowns were enhanced with corsets that defined the waist and made the hips look larger.
Look Number 49, which features a waisted double-breasted maxi coat and waisted tailored trousers in black wool, combined with a corset tank top inside a black jersey is reminiscent of the looks in this era.
6. LOOK 57

This incognito ball gown in black shiny silk taffeta is impossible to miss. Stiff on the upper half and free at the bottom, Denma made sure that the piece would draw attention to his muse's face.

7. LOOK 17

Denma's colour-play of bright orange and pink on top of upcycled cut-up jeans in light blue was an outfit grappled with looks from people off the runway. This crinkled aluminium jersey was an instant catch thanks to its overpowering yet ready-to-wear hues.
