When speaking about the fashion capitals of the world, Antwerp is probably not the first city that springs to mind, but this Belgian city, in my view, has a very well deserved and extremely significant spot on the global fashion map alongside Paris, London, Milan and Tokyo. Let me explain.

Endearingly coined the ‘Six of Antwerp’, the six designers in this collective include Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Marina Yee and Walter Van Beirendonck. Walter Van Beirendonck, in fact, rocked the London Fashion Fair in the 80’s and paved the way for the more recent Belgium designers.

One of the younger Belgian designers I like is label A.F. Vandevorst, the brainchild of designer duo An Vendevorst and Filip Arickx. A name unfamiliar to many, the label presented its debut collection in Paris in 1997 and is to date, an absolute hidden treasure to avant garde fashionistas everywhere! I now share with you their serendipitously amazing 2011 autumn collection where it is all about the backside. Often ignored or understated, the rear view has never before been the recipient of so much attention and detail. The result? A collection that is not only visually mesmerizing but makes a modern statement: a woman is powerful no matter what.
