After a nearly three‑year standstill, the world’s borders are finally open and the planet is ours to explore once more. Man is nomadic by nature, and travelling the globe and connecting with different cultures is inherent to the human spirit.
For fall 2022, Tumi unveils Built for the Journey, a global campaign chronicling the personal and professional lives of the Tumi Crew: four world‑renowned athletes and celebrities whose lives are always on the go. The campaign features four short films directed by award‑winning director Jessy Moussallem, who travelled the world to capture the stories of these global stars and how Tumi plays a crucial supporting role in their respective journeys.
Dedicated to honing his skills as an athlete through repetition and consistency, South Korean footballer Son Heung‑min finds in his Tumi 19 Degree Aluminum hardside luggage a trusty companion that serves all his travelling needs. American singer‑songwriter Gracie Abrams talks about “the strength to go where you’ve never been to but always belonged” as she headed off to Paris in search of inspiration, accompanied by her Tegra-Lite luggage.
American actor and recording artist Anthony Ramos, who is of Puerto Rican descent, embarked on a soul‑searching journey to the Caribbean island—an experience “that has allowed me to explore my roots and connect to the place my family is from in a deeper way,” he says, adding that “Tumi’s Tegra-Lite [luggage] made this trip more exceptional, since I securely packed meaningful mementos from La Isla to always remind [myself] of my [provenance]”. Ramos even recorded a song inspired by his trip with Tumi, titled Maleta, which means bag in Spanish.

The final instalment of the Built for the Journey campaign, which aired in October, featured McLaren Formula One driver Lando Norris, who recently competed in the Singapore Grand Prix and finished fourth. The film showcases the sleek new Tumi | McLaren CX6 carbon fiber collection, which is built on innovation, technology and high‑performance design, crafted from CX6 carbon fibre—which is often found in supercars, including McLaren’s—for its exceptional strength.

“This campaign celebrates the resiliency of the human spirit and embarking on new adventures,” says Jill Krizelman, Tumi’s senior vice-president of global marketing and e-commerce. “Tumi is committed to perfecting the journey; it’s how we’re built.”
While travel has returned, the way we travel has changed. More than ever, travellers are now seeking meaningful experiences and depth of connection to the people and places they encounter on their journeys. They are also placing increased importance on their health and that of the planet.

Tumi has stayed ahead of the curve with its Future Earth concept, fortifying its sustainable approach to innovation. Through timeless design as well as durable and sustainable materials, the brand’s focus is on built‑to‑last products that it hopes will transcend generations.
Its fall 2022 collection comprises a diverse array of products, spanning luggage and backpacks to daily wear items such as briefcases and sling bags. There is also a special edition of the iconic 19 Degree Collection made in Polycarbonate, featuring shells and linings made with recycled materials as well as a matte finish with speckling throughout. In the Aluminum line, Tumi makes a subtle statement with a new ombre colourway for its 19 Degree packing cases and carry‑ons.

“It’s more important than ever for us to understand the world we live in and take responsibility for what we create and coexist within it,” says Tumi’s creative director, Victor Sanz. “We will continue to fortify our core strengths by marrying technology and the digital space with sustainable innovations. We’ve also examined the natural landscape for the inspiration of colour and texture. We’re creating our future earth.”
