The St. Regis Langkawi

Langkawi, Malaysia

Langkawi is a picturesque island surrounded by turquoise waters and abundant with paddy fields and lush forested hills. It is no wonder this tropical gem is also known as the Jewel of Kedah.

Just a 15-minute drive from the main town of Kuah is The St. Regis Langkawi, which sits on the island’s south coast, overlooking the Andaman Sea. Envisioned by San Francisco-based architectural firm Gensler, the palatial luxury resort adopts Moorish and Middle Eastern influences in its design. Weddings come in the style of a bare-foot ceremony on the white sandy beach, an intimate solemnisation on the outdoor, open-air wedding pavilion—which offers an enchanting pedestal decorated with batik star motifs and blue-tinted glass lanterns—as well as a grand banquet at the magnificent Astor Ballroom.

Tatler tip  The crowning jewel of The St. Regis Langkawi is Kayu Puti, the over-water restaurant designed by Bill Bensley. Opt for a reception at this dining haven, which serves up East-meets-West cuisine dreamed up by executive chef Gaetan Biesuz.

A tropical wonderland, the resort’s design is inspired by the stories of four fictitious clans of ancient Phuket settlers. Couples can choose from four different venues to suit their fancy, whether it is a whimsical forest ceremony, a rooftop celebration overlooking Kamala Bay, a casual and fun poolside wedding, or a grand occasion at the Enchanted Hall and Terrace. The resort also offers both a Western-style wedding or a Thai Buddhist wedding ceremony, a unique experience that includes a water pouring ritual by friends and family, and a blessing chant led by monks from a local temple.
