“For couples seeking an overseas ambience in their wedding pictures but don’t have the time to travel, what would you recommend?”
As much as possible, I would avoid recommending iconic landmarks in Singapore, but rather more rustic locations around town that will evoke the sense of an overseas shoot. Punggol, for example, has beautiful coniferous trees and tall grass, which can help to give a countryside feel to photos, while other lush and interesting places are Bukit Gombak and Pulau Ubin.
Even if time were a major constraint and having location shoots may be difficult, I wouldn’t recommend super-imposing a background
as it takes away all aspects of a pre-wedding photo shoot experience. With all things, it’s always more about the journey than the destination. The photo shoot is one of the memories of getting married that couples can share and keep, but by superimposing a background, couples wouldn’t be able to get such an experience together.
“What would you discuss with a bridal couple during the pre-shoot briefing?”
First and most importantly, I will talk to them about the sort of backdrop they are looking for, whether it’s nature or one that has a strong architectural element to it. From knowing that, I will plan the route of the shoot according to the suitability of the outfit, location and lighting.
“What are three things the bride and groom must remember when taking wedding photos on location?”
Powdered wet wipes; these can very quickly refresh a bridal couple on a hot day while also helping to take away some of the stickiness from perspiration. For the men, I’d advise that they wear proper socks as there may be photos that give a glimpse of a groom’s socks, such as when they’re sitting down. The pictures wouldn’t look good if the groom only had ankle socks on! And bring bottles of water because dehydration is never good for a photo shoot.
