When it comes to affairs that celebrate the legendary spirit—and scent—of Chanel, it doesn’t get grander than Le Grand Numéro De Chanel
The world’s most iconic luxury house has lifted the curtain on an olfactory odyssey like none that have come before it. Forming a unique exhibition at the Grand Palais Éphémère within Paris’s Champ de Mars from December 15, 2022 to January 9, 2023, the magnificent Le Grand Numéro De Chanel invited Hong Kong actresses Angela Yuen and Fala Chen to immerse themselves in a world of legendary Chanel fragrances.
Conceptualised to showcase the history and style of Chanel fragrances as a harmonious collective, the exhibition allowed brand ambassadors and representatives to smell fragrances and ingredients, making the experience fully immersive—a concept which Chanel’s in-house perfumer creator Olivier Polge says is an essential part of the surprise-filled project.
“What’s fantastic about fragrance is that it cultivates our imagination: smelling a scent takes us on a journey,” he says. “The magic of a fragrance also lies in the fact that we are unable to put our finger on the exact feeling that it arouses in us; it plays with our emotions, transports us to a place that we cannot describe. And this element of mystery is part of the dream.”
The enchanting experience included Take Your Chance, a cabaret-inspired world, home to a wheel of fortune and petite prizes, where luck never runs out. Visitors also used their senses to gather clues and Cross The Blue Line, finding themselves within an exclusive blues-soundtracked speakeasy, inspired by the world of Bleu, Chanel’s aromatic fragrance for men. Next in line, Assert Your Personality offered a private viewing of 18 moving works of art, where attendees completed the scent equivalent of a Rorschach test in order to find their perfect fit among the sea of Les Exclusifs De Chanel fragrances.

To mark the curtains-raising of the sensational festive experience, Hong Kong representatives Chen and Yuen joined Chanel’s group of global ambassadors for the very first time. They celebrated the grand opening of the exhibition in Paris with the French heritage brand’s celebrity-filled community, including Marion Cotillard, Keira Knightley and Park Seo-joon.
