Our tropical climate in this part of the hemisphere forces us to rethink our makeup choices. This is why we face a love-hate relationship with liquid foundation and are in a constant dilemma of whether or not we should give it up for alternatives that won't leave our skin looking oily. But at the end of the day, liquid foundation is still our best friend when it comes to achieving picture-perfection for any occasion. 1. Best for a glowy finish: Lancôme Teint Miracle Hydrating Foundation

What it does: With enhancing complexions and its reinforced moisturising properties being the main benefits, Lancôme's Teint Miracle Hydrating Foundation is also said to be non-irritating to help achieve a fresh and radiant glow while maintaining a natural-looking complexion.

What we think: This foundation gives a natural-looking radiance that mimics great skin. As the foundation is on a yellow-spectrum, the formula tends to darken slightly as it sets. For those who prefer fairer skin tones, choosing a lighter shade will give you a more desirable result.

2. Best for a weightless finish: BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation

What it does: Containing bamboo stem extract and papaya enzymes, this foundation is said to be so pure that you can sleep in it. With 30 shades available, BareMinerals says this foundation will provide 24-hour breathable full coverage with its Mineral Lock long-wear technology and SPF 20 sun protection.

What we think: With its creamy liquid texture, this foundation feels gentle and weightless. We don’t know if we can really sleep while wearing the foundation, but we feel more guilt-free using it. We also tried using it without any setting spray or powder, and the foundation held and kept the skin relatively matte from day to night (6pm to be exact).

3. Best for a flawless finish: Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup

What it does: Being one of Estee Lauder’s best-selling products, the Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup has gained a loyal following over the years. This water-infused foundation is said to feel like you have nothing on. With its water-light texture, it glides on your skin easily and keeps your skin hydrated all day long.

What we think: The first thing that we noticed is the runny texture of the foundation and the fact that the design of the bottle does not prevent potential spillage. If you like a matte finish, this one is not for you as it leaves a rather dewy complexion. The liquid foundation does a good job in evening and smoothing the skin. The consistency of the foundation is also impressive, as the flawless finish stays put from day to night, making it look as though you're wearing a beautify filter throughout the day.

4. Best for invisible coverage: Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation

What it does: Created specifically for the latest high-definition technologies of the film and TV industry, the Ultra HD advanced formula is said to be invisible on 4K camera and to the naked eye.

What we think: Being many on-camera talents’ favourite, Make Up Forever Ultra HD foundation is indeed a camera-friendly foundation. Unlike many full-coverage liquid foundations, the shades of this foundation match well with true skin tones and doesn't make skin look lighter than it really is. If you are a fan of natural skin tones, this one is for you.

5. Best for a dewy finish: Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Aqua Nude Foundation

What it does: This intensely hydrating, long-lasting and light-textured foundation is said to give skin a more beautiful complexion by smoothing and perfecting the skin’s texture with a sheer finish. Infused with skincare water, its formula will hydrate the skin and give it a visibly plumped appearance.

What we think: Although the shade range is not as wide, this foundation does an impressive job in terms of adapting to different skin tones. With its water-infused formula, this foundation is like a dream-come-true as it conceals red spots so well despite its lightweight texture.
