If you haven't heard by now, Clarisonic, the OG facial cleansing device, will be shutting down effective from September 30 this year. A trailblazer for beauty devices in its category, Clarisonic's devices—with its oscillating brush heads—transformed skincare for many at home, with famous fans including Cate Blanchett, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Oprah touting its prowess in facial cleansing and massage in the early days. However, as skincare trends steer towards nurturing your skin rather than over-exfoliation, Clarisonic failed to keep up with its consumers, falling behind its younger competitors instead.
A representative from L’Oreal, which acquired Clarisonic in 2011, told WWD: “This difficult decision was made so that L’Oréal can focus its attention on its other core business offerings.”
