Quick, safe and convenient—the original PicoSure laser machine has finally found its way to north Malaysia, thanks to Regen Clinic

Founder of Regen Clinic and one of the most reputable LCP-accredited aesthetic doctor in Penang, Dr Shin celebrates her clinic’s fifth anniversary this year. With years of experience as a medical professional including a stint in the emergency department at Bukit Mertajam Hospital, she made the decision to specialise and pursue her passion in aesthetic medicine eight years ago and has never looked back.

“When I was younger, I was fascinated with the unbelievable transformations on Nip/Tuck TV series,” she says, “But these days, I’m more drawn to the idea of enhancing an individual’s features to showcase their natural beauty without downtime.”

Offering a menu of non-surgical facial enhancement services including injectables, one of the most requested on the list is their original PicoSure laser treatment, which is an impressive new-generation device with the ability to eliminate acne scars, wrinkles and pigmentation and remove tattoos, leaving customers satisfied with smoother and firmer skin.

Dr Shin sits down with Tatler Malaysia to discuss this exciting new technology.

Tell us a bit about the PicoSure Laser Treatment.

When I started my clinic, I tried out many machines but my clients were never satisfied. Either the results were not prominent enough or the the recovery period took a little too long.

When I came across PicoSure a year and a half ago, it was a revelation. It’s one of the best machines in the world and I am so privileged to be the first clinic in North Malaysia to acquire the PicoSure machine.

The result from one session with the PicoSure laser treatment is equivalent to four sessions with the older generation fractional CO2 or Q-switch laser treatment. And in only one day, all redness subsides—high efficiency with minimal downtime!

Why does PicoSure stand out as an industry-leading machine?

PicoSure uses cutting-edge short-pulse laser technology that delivers energy so rapidly that it is able to shatter and break down the ink or pigment without affecting surrounding tissue. The shorter time frame reduces the potential of thermal damage to the skin.

That is not its only function as the PicoSure laser has three different lenses.

One of the most impressive lenses is the Focus lens, which takes a different approach from older generation machines because it harnesses the body’s natural healing process. This is especially good for those struggling with large pores, acne scars and wrinkles. Rather than shaving down the skin with peels or CO2 lasers over time, the PicoSure laser sends signals to the skin to stimulate collagen and remodel the skin from within.

A single session generally last an hour and a half, including an extraction facial and numbing cream. To be able to correct skin concerns in that time, with any redness or sensitivity lasting a few hours, it’s the perfect solution for modern people with busy lifestyles.

Does it hurt?

Not at all. It’s a light rubber band sensation, which may be an unfamiliar sensation for first-time patients but many get used to it.

What is your advice for those who are interested in undergoing laser treatment?

Be honest with your doctors. If you had anything done with your skin that leaves your skin feeling raw, whether it is a chemical peel at home or microdermabrasion, it’s important to tell your doctor because the collagen-stimulating aspect of this treatment requires adequate hydration.

And it is so important to be consistent with post-laser aftercare, such as medical grade sunscreen. It will reduce the need for repeat treatments. For those with sensitive skin, I would normally advise them to avoid moisturisers with many active ingredients—such as acids and vitamins—normally added for brightening or anti-acne purposes to let their skin rest.

On a serious note, I also urge those who are interested in aesthetic treatments to prioritise safety. Seek out qualified doctors who are LCP-accredited with reliable machines and strong ethics.. It has been harrowing reading in the news about injuries and death sustained by people who are going to regular beauty salons with no real expertise in the field.
