How it works
High-frequency radiofrequency (RF) therapies have gained significant attention for their ability to rejuvenate and tighten skin without the need for surgery. This in turn induces collagen contraction and stimulates the production of new collagen fibers. We recently booked ourselves an appointment with Bay Aesthetics Clinic for a firsthand experience of what Oligio RF has to offer. The process began with a consultation with Dr Bernard Tan, medical director and founder of Bay Aesthetics Clinic, who shared his extensive knowledge in a warm and reassuring manner. Dr Tan thoroughly explained the intricacies of this radiofrequency treatment: how it works, the step-by-step process, and its benefits. He also explained the differences between Oligio RF and other popular treatments such as Thermage FLX and Ultherapy, and shared that these treatments can offer a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation when combined.
“Radiofrequency skin tightening treatments such as Oligio RF and Thermage FLX target the superficial 1-2 milimeters of skin, using RF energy to gently heat up and tighten skin,” says Dr Tan, “While Ultherapy targets the deeper layer of the skin at 3mm and 4.5mm depth using ultrasound energy to tighten the deeper collagen layer for a face and neck lifting effect. For clients in their late 30s onwards, we recommend combining both treatments for optimal results.”
This is where Dr Tan's ‘less is more’ philosophy came through: he recommended a tailored treatment plan to target problem areas while focusing on enhancing every patient’s natural beauty with minimal intervention. The process
The experience began with a thorough facial cleansing, followed by the application of a numbing cream. After 20 minutes, it was time for the main event. The actual Oligio RF process takes between 30 to 45 minutes, and in the capable hands of Dr Tan, it was a breeze. Patients will feel a warm sensation with slight prickling on certain sensitive parts of the face, but fortunately, the intelligent cryogen cooling system made the process all the more comfortable. To safely treat the delicate eye area, Dr Tan will switch to a smaller tip for hard-to-reach areas like the inner corners of the eyes.
After the treatment, moisturiser and sunscreen is applied to the face, and patients can return to their daily activities immediately— with minimal redness or swelling. We noticed a subtle but discernible tightening effect. Our skin felt firmer, and there was a noticeable lift, particularly around the cheeks. Dr Tan assured us that while these initial results were promising, the real magic would unfold over the next few months as our skin continued to produce new collagen. And true enough, more than one month on, our skin looked tighter and more bouncy—resulting in more prominent cheek bones, as well as a reduction in the fine lines on our forehand.
