From preserving that just-stepped-out-of-the-salon hue to fortifying strands against damage, here are some expert tips, tricks, and insights you need to know to keep your coloured locks looking their absolute best
We all want lush, healthy hair, the kind we would see in shampoo commercials and high fashion editorials. And whilst such desires are undeniably unrealistic, it’s not entirely impossible to achieve. It all comes down to how you take care of your tresses, and there is a lot that goes into haircare than simply just washing and conditioning regularly.
That said, it’s no rocket science, and with a little guidance from an expert—and, of course, effort and commitment—the dread of bad hair days will soon be a thing of the past. On that note, we sat down with Portfolio Hair Studio’s team of skilled hairstylists to get their professional advice on haircare, the key hair trends of the year, must-have haircare products, and more.

What are the secrets to achieving and maintaining healthy hair, particularly for clients who regularly dye or bleach their hair?

Are there any specific products or routines you recommend to help clients maintain the vibrancy of their colour-treated hair?
Our latest L’Oreal Professionnel Metal detox range is specially designed for colour-treated hair, which eliminates metal particles that are contained in our water pipes. It will nourish and prolong coloured hair with a silky shine.
What are some of the harmful chemicals that clients should avoid in hair products?
Too much sulphate! Sulphate-free hair care products are in-trend now. Not only are they gentler for the hair and scalp, but they also keep the hair nourished without weighing it down.
What are some of the important hair care practices that most people don’t know about or tend to disregard?
Keeping a healthy scalp is very important, we suggest everyone to have a set of scalp care and hair care products in their routine, such as L’Oreal Profesionnel’s Scalp Advanced care range.
What are the hottest hair trends that will define 2024?

You recently launched a new hair collection, Elements 2.0. Can you tell us more about the concept and the inspiration behind it?
Above Portfolio Hair Studio’s Elements 2.0 campaign, showcasing a harmonious fusion of sleek geometric silhouettes and bold hues
Elements 2.0 is a progression of our acclaimed Elements collection that we launched during our opening. This collection epitomises the fusion of our artistic concept ideas, drawing inspiration from the luxurious aspects of form and structure seen in the late Zaha Hadid’s architectural designs. The colours harmoniously complement the hair designs, with colours such as dark walnut brown, warm cherry, burnt umber, and digital purple being the key tones.
Being a seasoned hairstylist, you must have come across numerous hair horrors, especially following the lockdowns when many needed to get their DIY hair makeovers fixed. What are some of the worst things that clients should avoid doing to their hair and why is it important to visit a salon to receive professional hair services?
Leave it to the pros! Do not bleach your own hair or trim your own bangs. We have seen a lot of home-bleached hair with severe breakage—they often underestimate the manufactured instructions—that ultimately cost more time and investment to repair. Social media has encouraged the idea of cutting your own bangs at home, which is not as easy as it looks. Hairstylists have been trained over the years on gripping tension, holding hair at specific angles, and professionally handling scissors for the best cuts.
