Reduce dark spots by targeting excess melanin precursors with 'Melasyl™', an exclusive molecule found in 7 L'Oréal Groupe products.
Reinforcing its global leadership in beauty, L'Oréal Groupe announces the further development of 'Melasyl™,' an exclusive molecule and one of the top innovations of the year that addresses skin pigmentation and dark spots at their root cause. This innovation is now integrated into seven high-performance skincare products under the L'Oréal Paris and La Roche-Posay brands, including the first body care products to utilize Melasyl™. These products aim to comprehensively and directly address dark spots, a major concern for Thai consumers, representing 35% of the domestic skincare market and impacting both skin health and self-confidence.

With Melasyl™'s unique ability to intercept pigment precursors before they surface as dark spots and dullness, L'Oréal is expanding its offerings to deliver tailored care for all skin types, focusing on restoring a beautifully even and luminous complexion.
Patrick Girod, Managing Director of L'Oréal Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, stated, “Scientific excellence is the foundation of L'Oréal's research and innovation. We believe that science and technology are the driving force for positive change, and we have dedicated decades to continuous research to develop effective products for consumers worldwide, including in Thailand. We recognize that pigmentation and dark spots are a major concern for Thai consumers, affecting not only skin health but also personal confidence. Incorporating the innovative Melasyl™ molecule into L'Oréal Paris and La Roche-Posay products reflects our commitment to developing safe, effective, cutting-edge, and accessible scientific innovations to meet the diverse needs of consumers.”

It blocks melanin precursors before they can be converted into the skin's natural pigmentation, delivering significantly more effective results than conventional treatments while not disrupting the skin's natural pigmentation process.” - Dr. Tarun Chopra, Head of Science Communications for L'Oréal, South Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa (SAPMENA) (Image: L'Oréal Thailand)
The science behind inhibiting melanin precursors.
Melasyl™ is the result of nearly 20 years of research and development, involving the testing of over 100,000 molecules. Unlike traditional pigmentation treatments that focus on fading existing dark spots or inhibiting melanin-producing enzymes, Melasyl™ works differently as a 'Melanin Precursor Interceptor,' inhibiting melanin precursors by trapping them before they transform into the pigments that cause dark spots and dullness on the skin.
Dr. Tarun Chopra, Head of Science Communications for L'Oréal in South Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and North Africa (SAPMENA), stated, “Our scientific approach is based on the skin’s natural biological mechanisms. While melanin plays a crucial role in protecting the skin and determining its diverse skin tones, external factors such as high levels of UV radiation and pollution in Thailand can stimulate excessive melanin production, leading to dark spots and dullness.”
“Melasyl™ has revolutionized the treatment of these localized pigmentation issues by working at the source through an innovative mechanism. It blocks melanin precursors before they can be converted into the skin's natural pigmentation, resulting in significantly more effective results compared to conventional treatments, without disrupting the skin's natural pigmentation process,” added Dr. Tarun Chopra.

A diverse range of products combining high performance and advanced skincare science standards.
L'Oréal Paris: Beyond the core molecules, the 'product formula' is the heart of what makes this innovation truly effective. Dr. Richard Betts, L'Oréal Paris's Scientific Director for the SAPMENA region, revealed that the brand utilizes the 'Professional Power Couple' concept, combining Melasyl™ with glycolic acid and niacinamide to comprehensively address pigmentation issues at every stage, from exfoliation and radiance restoration to inhibiting melanin production. This synergy reduces dark spots by up to 88%, reflecting the application of advanced cosmetic science to daily skincare for masstige consumers at an accessible price.
