The Lancôme Absolue Longevity Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, gathered scientists, skincare experts and friends of Lancôme to discover the secrets and science behind the brand’s newest innovation, Absolue PDRN
Last month, Lancôme welcomed celebrities, editors and skincare-lovers to the Absolue Longevity Summit in Bangkok, a wide-ranging exhibition and conference that showcased the breadth of Lancôme’s scientific work in the field of skincare innovation and anti-ageing.
The summit took guests on a journey through the decades of research and development that have happened under L’Oréal Longevity Integrative Science, the long-running project in which scientists seek to get to the very root of skin ageing. The result is the Longevity AI Cloud—a map of 267 biomarkers and their impacts, categorised into nine major biological hallmarks of skin ageing. These nine categories gave L’Oréal Longevity Integrative Science a framework for understanding skin and its ageing process at increasingly granular levels; from the tissue to the cells to the very molecules themselves. In this way, L’Oréal were able to identify exactly where they could intercept skin ageing right at its source.
“For me, it's a milestone, and I'm very proud to represent the brand for that,” global director of research & innovation Angelique Jacquet tells us. “We’ve used technology to go faster, so that we can use [the Longevity AI Cloud] to screen actives and identify invisible things. I’m proud of creating a new era in longevity science.”

Absolue PDRN: Drawing on the power of rose DNA
The map was just the start—a scientific jumping-off point from which the Lancôme team were able to develop and formulate their most innovative ingredient yet: Absolue PDRN. The beauty world has been alight with talk and trials of PDRN, the potent new ingredient most commonly derived from salmon sperm, known for its ability to stimulate cell regeneration and repair. In aesthetic medicine practices, PDRN is used in injectables as a powerful anti-ageing treatment. But was there an easier way to harness this potent ingredient?

“We always have this question of how can we reinvent and break barriers for skincare, science research and innovation?” Manuel Pellequer, Worldwide Events, Advocacy & Influence, Press and PR Manager for Lancôme, tells us. “As PDRN is the most buzzing, invasive treatment right now amongst celebrities, royals, and high profile consumers, we dug deeper into the science of PDRN. We actually did the first DNA extraction from a rose, which led us to Absolue PDRN, and this is patented until 2044. After multiple trials, it has actually showed a better performance than Salmon PDRN on three factors.”
It makes perfect sense that Lancôme would look to the rose for innovation. The brand’s symbol has served as inspiration and ingredient across fragrances, cosmetics and skincare, and here was a chance to involve the rose on an even deeper level. “PDRN is at the DNA level, and this is why we looked to the rose to extract it and see how we could adapt it to the cream. It takes 100 roses to create 1 gram of Absolue PDRN. It’s a lot of roses! But we’ve also learned at Lancôme to use the rose in a very ethical and conscious way.”

After rounds and rounds of in-vitro and clinical testing (Jacquet: “It didn’t always work. Many times we thought it wouldn’t”) the Lancôme labs finally produced the world’s first topical PDRN extracted from a rose. The powerful Absolue PDRN is the star active ingredient in the new Absolue Longevity Soft Cream: a delicately scented, lightweight but deeply nourishing cream that could be the missing step in your anti-ageing skincare regimen.

In the Soft Cream, Absolue PDRN is an absolute workhorse—bringing energy back to the skin cells to increase metabolism and delay the ageing process, resulting in plump, youthful looking skin. The ingredient joins Proxylane and rose CO2 extract to create a powerful trio of longevity actives that work together to firm facial contours, fill out tear troughs, reduce forehead wrinkles and nasolabial folds and even lift cheekbones. With continued use of the Absolue Longevity The Soft Cream, five years of ageing signs can be reduced in just one month, proven through Lancôme’s rounds of extensive testing.
It’s a whole new frontier for anti-ageing and longevity skincare. And as Jacquet says, “Now the story says that nothing is impossible. And you have to keep dreaming.”
