Keep your pores from clogging and your skin from becoming irritated with these tips and tricks

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, wearing face masks have become a norm in our everyday life. Though it's beneficial in flattening the curve, unfortunately, wearing a face mask for a long period of time can cause or exacerbate skin issues like acne, breakouts, clogged pores, pimples, and blemishes. But there are ways to prevent maskne, as the condition is called.

What is Maskne?

There are two main causes of this type of acne. The first is the friction between your skin and the mask. Friction disrupts the surface of your skin and starts breaking down your skin barrier, making it easier for your pores to get clogged. The second cause is the moisture and humidity that form underneath your mask when you wear it for a prolonged period of time.

How To Prevent Maskne?

Choose The Right Face Mask

Choose those made with lightweight materials like cotton, silk and satin. These are likely to trap less heat and humidity, causing less stress to your skin. Another crucial thing is to change and wash your face masks regularly.

Wash Your Face

Wash your face with a gentle, oil-free cleanser before putting on your mask and after taking it off. But you shouldn't be washing your face more than three times a day to avoid further stripping of oils from your skin. The goal is to get rid the dirt, sweat and dead skin cells without damaging the skin.

Foreo has a perfect solution for a smart, spa-like skin cleansing. Called the Luna Fofo, its advanced skin sensors analyse your skin’s moisture levels and condition in each zone. The dual skin sensors are capable of reading hydration levels at an impressive 1,000 units per second. Based on your skin condition, Luna Fofo will recommend a personalised cleansing routine.
