Contouring and highlighting never goes out of style, and a quick sweep of a bronzer and highlighter can instantly make your features pop. From powder to cream, contour and highlight kits come in so many different variations and shades that it can be a pain to decide which one best fits your face. So, we put some of the most sought out kits on the market to the test:

1. Best for a shimmery finish: Hourglass - Ambient Lighting Edit - Volume 3

What it does: This 2017 holiday limited edition palette comes in a rose gold compact, complete with three of Hourglass' best sellers and three new exclusive powders. The travel-friendly kit includes a bronzer, three different highlighters and two shades of blush.

What we think: With three different highlights—Dim Light, Diffused Light and a new Hypnotic Strobe Light—you can mix and match for the perfect glow. Extremely pigmented and easy to apply, this kit had us feeling glamorous from day to night. If you're a little on the pale side, you may want to skip the shimmery bronzer.

2. Best all-in-one palette: Urban Decay - Naked Skin Shapeshifter

What it does: More than just a contour and highlight kit, the Urban Decay palette includes both powder and cream textures. It includes a total of five contouring shades, two colour-corrections and two highlighters.

What we think: Both textures were easy to apply and felt silky and smooth. If you're looking for a lighter make-up look but still want to sculpt your face, the powder is a simple alternative to the cream set.

If you're heading to a photo shoot and need your features to pop, the creamy shades provide more options. Aside from having to buy your own brushes and beauty blender, this is honestly the only palette you'll ever need.

3. Best for a matte finish: Kevyn Aucoin - Neo Bronzer

What it does: This three-in-one palette contains everything that's needed for the perfect sun-kissed glow. With an ombre layout from the highlighter to blush to bronzer, it can all be applied with one swipe across the kit.

What we think: We thought this was one of the easiest palettes to apply. The creamy texture of this powder-based palette really caught us by surprise when we glided our finger across for a swatch. Highly pigmented, the colours felt smooth against the skin and was oh-so-easy to blend.

4. Best for a bright face: Charlotte Tilbury - Instant Look In A Palette - Beauty Glow

What it does: Inspired by Poppy Delevigne's glowing wedding makeup, this Charlotte Tilbury palette includes seven rose gold shades. From two eyeshadows, two shades of blush, a highlighter and a bronzer, each powder has been blended with colour-correcting ingredients for a flawless finish.

What we think: Instructions engraved into the pressed powders helped with the application and the sculpting. Our favourite shade was no doubt the rose gold Eye Enhance powder, which instantly illuminated and added dimension across the crease of our eyes. By the end of the application, we were literally glowing.

5. Best glittery highlighter: Chantecaille - Les Paillettes

What it does: A holiday edition palette, this Chantecaille highlighter includes a rose-gold highlighter and a sheer pink shimmery shade. Inspired by sequins and paillettes, the two different shades provide a different finish on the skin.

What we think: We weren't too sure that the shade was a rose-gold as it was more gold than rosy. The level of sparkles in this compact is no joke. One light, creamy swatch and it looked as if we had applied glitter directly onto our skin. If you're looking to shine bright, then this is perfect.
