Give way to glowing skin

Catwalks were awash with clean, supercharged complexions as seen at Jil Sander and Prabal Gurung, proving that strong contouring should be abandoned in favour of rigorous skincare and minimal coverage.

Rose-tinted blushes and soft highlighters that fake a post-facial glow should be worn sparingly over featherweight foundation. This conviction was echoed at Brognano and Richard Malone, with both supporting the age-old argument that less is more. Tatler tip: Wear with an oh-so small sweep of glitter, either over the lid or in the eye's corner for pre-summer radiance.

It goes without saying that a jet-black kohl pencil remains the cool girl's makeup must-have, but spring calls for lashings of colour. Swap inky lines and charcoal pigment for painterly shapes and shadows inspired by the likes of Byblos and Peter Pilotto.

Experiment with vibrant violet and aquamarine or—if you dare—blend two to three contrasting tones together. Be sure to wear with a fresh face and nude lip to avoid looking dishevelled.

Master the bold lip

The It lip colour for spring is one that's usually reserved for the autumn months: Pillarbox-red. Deliciously decadent, Chalayan paired bright fuschia with sky-blue and ivory in an audacious move. Should you be in the mood for a break from the classics, opt for rich plum or deep bordeaux, as seen at Moschino, for an atmospheric alternative.

Pink-toned lipstick at Brandon Maxwell had an ultra-feminine feel, while Jeremy Scott got punky with plenty of sparkle. Finish your pout by dabbing a lighter colour or gloss in the centre for a two-tone effect.

Vamp up with gothic hues

Rejina Pyo kept grungey-shades sophisticated with pared-back eyes and a tea-stained lipstick for that just-bitten pout, complete with slicked-back tresses that harnessed the power of old-school glamour.

Max Mara, always one for a hint of pink, edged up an otherwise neutral spring palette with subtle sweeps of coffee shadow. Anna Sui served up bee-stung lips, alongside blazing shades of baby-pink and burnt-orange, while Antonio Marras sported bronze-swirled cheeks and sunken lids that evoked the feeling of being misunderstood. Be experimental–after all, it's the playful touches that make this look work.

Turn heads with barely-there brows

Bold eyebrows have been en vogue for some time now, and many of us—myself included—have attempted to bolster our less-than-blessed arches with various microblading techniques, serums and brushes.

But it would seem that ultra-fine natural brows are making a dramatic comeback, as seen on the catwalks of Proenza Schouler and Valentin Yudashkin. Please, oh please, don't mistake this trend for the heavily-tweezed look of the '20s and '30s, made famous by Clara Bow and Jean Harlow. Or even the plucked pencil-thin versions seen in the '90s on Drew Barrymore and Angelina Jolie. Instead, sport your natural shape, thickness and colour, without the added poking and tinting we've all become so accustomed to.
