This year, complete your skincare routine with these sunscreen products from noteworthy Filipino brands

There has been a significant surge in the number of sunscreen products from Filipino brands.  Today, even makeup companies include SPF (Sun Protection Factor), foundations, BB creams, tinted moisturisers, and powders in their products. This is primarily done to meet the increasing demand for multi-functional cosmetics offering coverage and protection.

But what do we need it for? Putting on a barrier against the sun's damaging rays is a no-brainer. Sunscreens help block or absorb harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays that cause premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, collagen loss and cancer.

What is SPF?

For starters, SPF is a measure used to indicate the level of protection a sunscreen provides against the sun’s harmful UV radiation. SPF numbers are typically seen on sunscreen labels and range from 15 to 100 or higher. This represents the degree to which the sunscreen can extend the time before your skin starts to burn.

How much SPF is recommended?

The level of SPF varies depending on your skin tone. According to the American Cancer Society, people with light skin are much more likely to be affected by UV rays. This is why researchers from the National Library of Medicine recommend at least SPF30+ for people with darker skin and SPF50+ for lighter skin.

In this article, Tatler gives its top-rated local sunscreens for 2024:
