It only takes a couple of minutes to pamper your skin with natural ingredients widely produced in the Philippines. This is the ultimate guide to a very Filipino skincare regimen

Staunch believers of clean and natural skincare have presented an argument I’ve heard several times: “If you can’t eat it, why would you put it on your face?” Initially, it was an idea I dismissed as overly simplistic, assuming that as long as something is safe for topical use, it does not matter whether my stomach can digest it.

But over time, it was getting harder to resist the transformative effects of organic skincare ingredients. A study from the International Journal of Advanced Engineering Research and Science in 2022 revealed a rise in the number of consumers for natural cosmetics. This shift is driven by concerns for health and the environment, alongside the influence of media and organisations advocating for ecological awareness.

Another study in 2023 showed that organic beauty products are often free from harsh chemicals like parabens, phthalates, and sulfates, which have been linked to numerous health concerns, including cancer and hormone disruption. “By using natural products, we can avoid exposure to these potentially harmful chemicals,” the research read.

This growing demand for natural skincare has prompted a closer look at ingredients that are both good for the skin and beneficial for the environment. One such treasure trove of organic ingredients is the Philippines, where a range of plants are cultivated.

Below is Tatler’s guide for a very Filipino skincare!

Moringa, known locally as Malunggay, is a nutritional powerhouse that is also incredibly effective in skincare. Rich in Vitamins C, A, and E, this organic ingredient has antioxidant properties that help protect the skin from environmental stressors and free radicals. It’s also known for its anti-aging benefits, as it stimulates collagen production, keeping the skin firm and youthful.
