The Tatler team shares their travel beauty essentials they carry on every flight

At Tatler, we are always jetting off to experience the best in wellness retreats and culinary journeys. This means we spend a lot of time in the plane cabins filled with dust, low air pressure, and low humidity—all the makings of a bad skin day.

But all these miles we've accumulated also means we have each devised our own go-to routine to disembark the plane looking radiant and well-rested (even if we are not). Want to know our secrets? Below, our beauty essentials for every short- or long-haul flight.

Seed to Skin’s The Alche’Mist & Chanel Hydra Beauty Masque de Nuit au Camélia

I’m a big fan of facial mists and I use them frequently when I’m in a cabin full of dry, recycled air. My current favourite is the Seed to Skin’s The Alche’Mist, which is a serum spray so it has extra benefits apart from keeping my skin hydrated and refreshed.

On a long-haul flight, I always use an overnight mask before I sleep and Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Masque de Nuit au Camélia fits the bill. It’s moisturising, smells divine, and goes on clear so I’m not scaring other passengers away (as you would with a sheet mask). Plus, I wake up with radiant, well-rested skin.

Sekkisei White UV Gel & Bioré UV Athlizm

Besides drinking water frequently (almost like a camel) during a flight, I'll also keep a spare tube of sunscreen on standby, particularly if I'm seated close to the window.

I've been alternating between using Sekkisei White UV Gel SPF50+/PA++++ and Bioré UV Athlizm, depending on the climate of the country that I’m travelling to—both feel lightweight on my skin while being a travel-friendly size.

Glossier Balm Dotcom

“I like Glossier's Balm Dotcom because I have sensitive skin and quite dry lips, and this lip balm is very hydrating without leaving an oily or sticky finish. It also doesn’t have a strong taste, which is nice as some lip balms I’ve tried have a waxy or artificial taste. Just a small squeeze of this is enough, and if I have some excess on my finger, I’ll rub it onto my cuticles.”

Aesop Ginger Flight Therapy

"Sometimes my wife feels uncomfortable on a long-haul flight due to air pressure or air turbulence. That’s why we always travel with the Aesop Ginger Flight Therapy. Upon application on pulse points, it calms the mind, soothes all senses and you feel better almost immediately. We also like its combination of sweet almond, lavender and ginger, which leaves a pleasant silage. The icing on the cake? It’s pocket-sized—perfect for our carry-on beauty bag."

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Antioxidant Face Mist & Hera Instant Cleansing Tissue

“I'm a bit of a germophobe, so I'm always armed with wet wipes and hand sanitiser on every flight. Hera's Instant Cleansing Tissue is perfect for me because the micellar water-infused cotton tissues help to gently remove make-up, dead skin cells, and dust particles—which are rampant in enclosed spaces like a plane—without leaving my seat.

After cleansing, I finish with a few spritzes of Fresh's Vitamin Nectar Antioxidant Face Mist (travel-sized) for a perk-me-up and a boost of antioxidants to hydrate and refresh my skin.”
