Conveniently make your own face mask at home using natural ingredients that you can get straight from your pantry

Other than the mask you wear to protect yourself during these precarious times, there's another mask you need to protect your skin wherever you may be—beauty masks. However, many of these vary and the choices can be a tad bit overwhelming. If you're losing time choosing the right product or can't leave the house to buy any, make your own face mask at home that's appropriate for your skin type.

Face mask for oily skin

When the pores produce excess sebum, a natural skin oil, the skin becomes oily. It clogs the pores which eventually triggers acne. To help absorb oil and cleanse the pores, use the following:

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 10 drops of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil

Procedure:

  1. Mash the banana in a bowl
  2. Pour the lemon juice and olive oil on the same bowl of mashed banana to create a liquid paste
  3. Apply the liquid paste over the face and allow it to sit for 15 minutes before washing off with warm water

Face mask for dry skin

Dry skin must be moisturised with ingredients that can provide hydrating effects on your complexion.

Ingredients:

  • Half avocado purée
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Procedure:

  1. Purée half an avocado and mix it with one teaspoon of olive oil
  2. Add one tablespoon of honey (if desired)
  3. Apply the concoction evenly over the face and leave the mask on for five to 20 minutes before washing it off with warm water

Face mask for combination skin

Those who have a complexion that has a combination of dry, normal, and oily areas on the face are known to have combination skin. Soothe the skin and achieve added glow by combining natural ingredients that can gently exfoliate the skin and reduce inflammation.

Ingredients:

  • Full-fat yoghurt
  • A handful of fresh mint and chamomile

Procedure:

  1. Mix a few tablespoons of plain, full-fat yoghurt with a handful of fresh mint using a food processor and blend until smooth
  2. Apply the paste over the face and leave the mask on for fifteen to 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water

Face mask for sensitive skin

Simple ingredients are key to making an effective face mask to avoid irritating sensitive skin. To be sure, before applying anything on the face, test the ingredient on the side of the forearm.

Ingredients:

  • 1 baby cucumber
  • 1 cup of black tea
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Procedure:

  1. Cut the cucumber into thin slices and set aside
  2. Steep one cup of black tea in a pot for five minutes
  3. Add one tablespoon of honey to the pot and stir until it is dissolved
  4. Add the cucumber slices into the pot
  5. Add one or two drops of an essential oil of your choice
  6. Let the cucumber sit for at least ten minutes
  7. Place the cucumber slices evenly over the face and leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes before removing and rinsing the face with warm water

Face mask for normal skin

A simple face mask for simple, normal skin is easy to make. Considering this complexion is not as delicate as the others, you may make a concoction out of natural ingredients from the kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cored and quartered apple
  • 2 tablespoons of honey

Procedure:

  1. Drop the apple pieces into the food processor
  2. Mix the honey with the apple and refrigerate for 10 minutes
  3. Apply the mask evenly over the face with a light tapping motion until the honey almost feels dry
  4. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes before rinsing
