Cover Diptyque’s latest creation, Lazulio, joins the maison’s Les Essences de Diptyque collection

The newest addition to the Les Essences de Diptyque collection, Lazulio, captures the jewel-like beauty of the peacock feather in an amber-woody composition, housed in a refillable collector’s bottle

A peacock feather is never still. Its colours ripple—indigo deepening to lapis, green breaking into threads of gold—as if light itself were woven into each strand. The effect is both intricate and deliberate, a beauty revealed in layers rather than in a single glance.

Diptyque’s latest creation, Lazulio, feels much the same. The newest addition to the Les Essences de Diptyque collection, it takes the visual splendour of the feather—and the lapis lazuli it resembles—and translates it into scent. Perfumer Quentin Bisch captures its contrasts in a composition that moves between brightness and depth: the crisp tang of rhubarb; the resinous, enveloping warmth of benzoin from Laos; the earthy, citrus-shadowed threads of Haitian vetiver; and a lift of rose that gives the fragrance a subtle, graceful arc.

“I wanted to contrast a bright accord of tangy, lively rhubarb with the delicious, enveloping caress of benzoin,” Bisch explains. “Rose and vetiver emphasise the interplay of colours and textures, imagining the fragrance of a jewel as displayed by this fabulous bird.”

The result is amber and woody, luminous and grounded all at once—the kind of fragrance that changes mood as the hours pass. On skin, it moves in layers: first the tart lift of fruit, then the slow unfurl of warmth and depth, leaving behind a trace that is both airy and addictive.

As with all Diptyque creations, Lazulio is designed as an object of desire. The bottle, its oval emblem engraved into the glass, is dressed in a watercolour design by Nigel Peake, a friend of the maison whose brushstrokes capture the feather’s delicacy and majesty.

It’s refillable, made using recyclable materials, and housed in an equally painterly box where each feather appears as its own work of art—a balance of beauty and practicality that feels very Diptyque.

Les Essences de Diptyque has always been about the imagination’s reach. Elements with no natural scent, reimagined through perfumery into something that can be worn, remembered, and recognised. In this context, Lazulio is both a continuation and a departure. Like its predecessors, it reimagines an unscented natural form: this time, not mineral or floral, but avian.

Coral becomes mineral and resinous in Corail Oscuro; water lily turns crystalline and green in Lilyphéa; the desert rose crystallises into powdery depth; bark lends the spiced structure of Bois Corsé; the shifting surface of mother of pearl is reimagined in Lunamaris; and stone is softened by bloom in Rose Roche.

Each captures what the eye sees but the nose cannot—until now.
