Dior’s new eye serum is designed to preserve the power of our eyes

Eyes have long been described as windows to the soul, often revealing our emotions and sometimes even our thoughts. But with face masks concealing the rest of our features over the last many months, eyes have now become the sole identifier of a person.

Hence, beauty today is all about the eyes. Make-up tutorials have proliferated, showcasing the best ways to accentuate brows and lashes, while red lips have been traded in for classic cat-eyes and Eighties-inspired eyeshadows. But with our eyes increasingly fatigued by excessive screen time and a chronic lack of sleep, their well-being deserves more attention than ever.

More than half of the muscles linked to facial expression are concentrated in the eye area, and with so many of us drawn to peoples’ eyes, Dior’s commitment to creating a formula to maintain healthy, radiant and youthful looking eyes is an understandable one.

Dior has introduced the Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum to maximise the beauty of the face’s most prominent and expressive feature, combining a formula composed predominantly from ingredients of natural origin—including active ingredients rye extract, hyaluronic acid and longoza extract, the key ingredient behind Capture Totale technology—with a new dual-patented Cryo-Flex applicator, designed to suit all eye shapes and stimulate the skin with a massage.

According to Dior’s environmental and scientific communication director, Edouard Mauvais-Jarvis, lessening their environmental impact hasn’t been without complications. “Moving towards higher and higher levels of naturality is a challenge, and brings different levels of difficulty,” he explains.

Nevertheless, he says, the brand has pledged to press ahead, re-formulating best-selling products as well as envisaging entirely new ones—like the Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum—with naturally derived ingredients.

Central to the formula of the Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum is the resilient longoza, a plant found on the island of Madagascar which reenergises the skin’s mother cell. Mauvais-Jarvis says the brand is careful to limit the environmental impact of extracting the longoza molecules by only using natural solvents and non-toxic methods.

Invested in sustainability, Dior has sought to redesign packaging to be streamlined, predominantly recyclable and in some instances, also refillable. Its own gardens are designed and maintained in keeping with the principles of regenerative agriculture, taking care of the environment in the same way the company hopes to preserve the power and uniqueness of our eyes.
