The enigmatic bloom so captured the imagination of Clarins Research scientists that the team travelled to the deep forests of Central America in order to uncover the restorative properties of this nocturnal bloom. Their discoveries inspired the Precious skincare range, which captures the exceptional potency of the moonlight flower to nourish one’s visage and to result in fresh and radiant skin.
To ensure a vital supply of the moonlight flower, this plant has now been lovingly cultivated in France for the last 15 years under the careful attention of Clarins’ botanists. It requires an exclusive savoir-faire and a knowledge of specific environmental conditions, such as a controlled temperature of 3°C, for the plant to thrive. Under cultivation, it now blossoms once a year but only when the moon is out and has to be carefully watched for nights on end for the first signs of blossoming.
The moment this happens, it is a race against the clock to harvest the flowers over a short two-hour timeframe during the peak of their beauty and molecular richness. To ensure the flowers do not degenerate and lose their potency, they are immediately cryofrozen at an ultra-cold temperature of -196°C. This freezes the precious, fragile molecules that have been found to have potent capabilities in stimulating the skin’s longevity.

The cryoextract helps to reactivate a longevity protein called FOXO which is naturally found in human skin cells.
