These are the most important products to take with you on a long (and cold) winter holiday

For a winter trip, taking care of your skin is crucial due to the cold temperatures and harsh environmental conditions. However, it’s fairly simple to keep the skin healthy as long as you stick to a proper routine that consists of essential skincare products and the right steps.

The cold, dry air can dehydrate your skin so use a rich, hydrating moisturiser both in the morning and at night to keep the skin properly quenched. An easy way to lock in moisture is to use hydrating face masks before bed to replenish moisture and nourish the skin. For those who prefer an even simpler method, use an overnight face mask. When cleansing the face, use a gentle cleanser and avoid harsh products that can strip the skin of its natural oils, which are needed to keep it hydrated. Even in winter, the sun’s rays are unavoidable, especially at higher altitudes. Therefore, remember to pack a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from UV damage. The lips can easily become dry and chapped in cold weather so carry a good-quality lip balm with SPF to keep them protected.

After a day out, make sure to cleanse the skin thoroughly and rehydrate it with moisturisers and hydrating serums. While tempting, hot showers can further dry out your skin so use lukewarm water to prevent drying out the skin.

It’s essential, however, to keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different, so consider your skin type when choosing products to pack in your travel vanity.

Most importantly, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Cold temperatures can make it easy to forget to drink water, but water is highly essential for maintaining the skin’s moisture levels.

Below, we list the beauty essentials (along with our recommendations) to pack with you on your next winter holiday.

1. Cleanser

Always remember to double cleanse! Start with a cleansing oil, such as the Soothing Cleansing Oil by Bobbi Brown, and massage a few pumps of it all over your face to emulsify and melt away makeup. Follow up with a cleanser of your choice, such as a foaming or gel cleanser, and rinse off. Try the newly launched Lathering Tube Soap by Bobbi Brown as it contains coconut extracts for deep cleansing and apricot oil for hydration.

2. Moisturiser

Embryolisse didn’t become a cult French drugstore brand for no reason. Its hero (and inaugural) product, the Lait-Crème Concentré is not just used to nail that French girl beauty look but it has gone on to gain a global following among everyone from makeup artists to everyday users. 1 tube of the product is sold every 20 seconds worldwide—that’s how popular it is.

Plus, you can use it in six different ways: as a moisturiser, mask, make-up primer, quick fix for make-up smudges or mistakes, aftershave and hand cream. What’s not to love about a multitasker?

3. Serum

Adding a serum to your skincare routine (especially during winter) is always a good idea. Many serums contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides, which help to boost and retain skin moisture, so choose a serum that works best with your skin type when packing for cold weather.

For those who want a bit of pampering, the new Orchidée Impériale Gold Nobile Cream and Serum by Guerlain is an exceptional product for skin rejuvenation and brightness. The formula is infused with white micro-pearls and 24-karat gold particles to illuminate the complexion and revive the skin’s natural radiance.

4. Lip balm

Keep the lips hydrated by using a lip balm, even under your favourite lipstick. Or if you prefer, pick a tinted lip balm to add some colour and radiance to the face.

Chanel’s Rouge Coco Baume is well-loved because of its silky, lip-conditioning formula that glides onto lips and delivers instant hydration. For its Les Beiges Winter Glow 2024 collection, Chanel introduced three vibrant new shades.

5. Sunscreen

Yes, sun protection is key—even during winter. You may have noticed friends and family who go on ski trips without sufficient face protection and often end up with unsightly dark spots or freckles due to constant sun exposure while out on the slopes. While it is unavoidable at times, there are ways to reduce the harmful consequences. A simple way is to include sunscreen at the end of your skincare routine before you head outdoors.

Round Lab’s Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen is a hot favourite amongst K-beauty fans and there has been much fanfare surrounding it. The product has gone viral on TikTok because of its efficacy and has recently won multiple awards. It also works as a combination of both a moisturiser and sunscreen and is suitable for all skin types, so it helps to hydrate and protect the skin.
