The skincare brand is a favourite of A-list stars including Kim Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra and Hailey Baldwin—and for good reason
The origin story of the award-winning Augustinus Bader skincare is based on proven science. Prior to the creation of his eponymous brand, Professor Augustinus Bader had spent over 30 years developing technologies that activate the human body’s capacity to heal and the reawakening of cells that become dormant due to ageing.
In 2008, the German-born physician developed a groundbreaking wound gel that heals severe skin traumas without the need for surgery or skin grafts. It was thanks to this revolutionary discovery that the brand Augustinus Bader and its proprietary technology TFC8 were born.

Among the signature products are The Rich Cream and The Cream, both intensely luxurious, hydrating daily moisturisers powered by TFC8 that support cellular renewal to dramatically improve the complexion's appearance.
Tatler chats with Bader himself for a better understanding of his eponymous brand and its products, which are available exclusively at Kens Apothecary in Malaysia.
How does TFC8 work?
The formula for TFC8 is based on wound healing physiology in my medical research in stem cell science. TFC8 is a response to physiologic necessities and is currently the most up-to-date evolution of a complex which contains natural amino acids, vitamins, and synthesised molecules in an exact quantity and combination natural to the skin.
TFC8 is essentially a toolbox that provides skin cells with everything they need to fix the things that go wrong, whether age-related or environmental. Since TFC8 works in cohesion with the skin's physiologic systems, it influences epigenetic factors that enable the body to fix your skin according to your own needs.

From your many years of research, what results have TFC8 yielded for Asian skin in particular?
While every individual is unique, all humans share the exact innate repair mechanism in their genetic code. The formulas work in a targeted manner to integrate the skin physiology of the user. Incorporating individual repair processes mean the products are genuinely universal and can be used by and are beneficial to a diverse customer base—all ages, ethnicities, environments, and genders. It's about creating the optimal environment for your body's natural regeneration processes to achieve the best possible result for all skin types.

What skincare routine would you recommend for people living in hot and humid climate such as Malaysia?
The skin adapts to the different challenges caused by weather conditions and sun exposure. The skin usually knows what to do to adapt—the best preparation here is to reinforce the skin's ability to prepare. In general, warmer climate tends to favour our lighter products, such as The Cream or The Light Cream, but it’s really a matter of personal preference and skin type.
In 2020, Augustinus Bader launched a collection in collaboration with Victoria Beckham. Tell us more about it.
Victoria initiated the idea for her first skin product launch. She wanted to develop a make-up product that improved the health and structure of the skin, not just a temporary fix. Victoria’s team had a lot of knowledge from the beauty and make-up side, and our skin-rejuvenating technology was already in existence. It seemed a logical extension for Augustinus Bader to venture into the make-up space.
Are there any active ingredients you would encourage or avoid using with the Cream or The Rich Cream?
Our creams are perfect for a minimal skincare routine as we recommend using them directly on dry, clean skin. This ensures the TFC8 is the first point of contact with the skin, and no other products will affect its efficacy. If you are using other skincare products to target specific issues, let our creams fully absorb into the skin before applying other skincare products. I recommend refraining from using toxic ingredients such as parabens, SLS, mineral oils, fillers, and silicones in combination with Augustinus Bader creams. If you choose to use conventional SPF, I recommend applying our cream first and letting it absorb into the skin. This way, your skin will be protected.
