Doja Cat and Bella Hadid have both done it—does this mean that bare eyebrows are back?

For the longest time, thick or feathery eyebrows were what everyone and their mother wanted. Makeup gurus rushed to advocate for it, espousing their belief for certain products that could help us achieve it. But alas, in the world of beauty, nothing is ever truly perpetual. In 2022, bare eyebrows seem to have taken over runways and Instagram feeds—shaved, bleached, and almost intergalactic.

Doja Cat has done it, Bella Hadid has walked the runway with it. Even the Kardashians have hopped on—with Kendall, Kylie, and Kim all sporting (light) blonde, bleached, or barely there brows.

So what is the appeal of the look? Granted, it's not exactly the easiest thing to pull off, but the trend seems to be on the rise.

Perhaps it's the edgy appeal of the bare brows. Whether shaved or bleached, it comes off as a striking look, something that seems quite out of this world. For celebrities, the look makes it easy to make a statement.

But perhaps the opposite is also true: model and actress Julia Fox recently revealed that she became almost unrecognisable to fans after she bleached her eyebrows. Makeup artist Pat MacGrath had helped Fox bleach her brows, and Fox has said it has given her a sense of anonymity she enjoys

But it's not just celebrities hopping on board the trend—fashion designers are incorporating it unto their catwalks as well. Versace and Marc Jacobs both incorporated it into their looks during Milan and New York Fashion Week.

So should you hop on too?

It's probably a good idea that if you're looking to hop in on the bare brows trend then have a professional do it for you. They're more likely to understand the proper techniques on how to bleach brows, or shave them properly. They can also answer questions on upkeep and precautions on how to maintain the look. With something as important as your eyebrows—which really do frame your entire face—it's always best to leave it in the hands of professionals.
