Warmth has many meanings. These fragrances exude both wintry cosiness and hours under the sun

There’s nothing quite like a warm, comforting fragrance akin to an embrace. A warm fragrance is often associated with notes of vanilla, musk, and various spices, from cinnamon to clove. Those inclined to these scents are instantly transported to colder nights spent by the fireplace or the feeling of being wrapped up in a comfortable quilt. As temperatures drop and days grow shorter, there’s nothing quite like a good scent to take you somewhere a little cosier.

This list also mentions fragrances that reference a different kind of warmth. Think notes of rich vanilla, coffee, and salted caramel that evoke the feeling of basking in the sun. These two interpretations are just as addicting as the other, and both will definitely leave a lasting impression.

Discover some of our favourite warm fragrances and perfumes that will turn heads and leave a lasting impression.

Maison Margiela ‘By the Fireplace’

This heady but sophisticated eau de toilette is a cosy winter’s night encapsulated in a bottle. A part of Replica, Maison Margiela’s line of fragrances, By the Fireplace is a spicy, warm fragrance balanced with hints of buttery vanilla.

The scent opens with top notes of pink pepper essence, orange flower, and clove oil, followed by heart notes of chestnut accord, gaïac wood, and cade oil. It rounds off with base notes of vanilla accord, Peru balsam resinoïd, and cashmeran.

Diptyque ‘Do Son’

The origins of this tuberose-forward, oriental eau de toilette were derived from Diptyque co-founder Yves Coueslant’s summers in the coastal village of Do Son, Vietnam. A romantic, sunkissed addition to the category of warm fragrances, Do Son relies on hints of tropical florals and marine accords for an olfactory sensation of basking by the seaside.

The scent opens with top notes of orange flower and iris, which open to heart notes of tuberose and pink pepper. It culminates in a rich base of musk and benzoin.

Clive Christian ‘No. 1’

This rich floral concoction captures the essence of British luxury. Considered as one of Clive Christian’s masterpieces, No1 includes 248 components of rare and exotic botanicals. The perfume is also available in a masculine form, which emphasises headier notes of nutmeg, sandalwood and tonka.

No1 opens with a sensuous mix of pimento, peach, plum and citrus, which give way to heart notes of ylang-ylang. The scent rounds off with rich cream infused with musk, amber and tonka bean.

Maison Louis Marie ‘Bois de Balincourt’

A woody spicy unisex fragrance, this underrated gem stands out with an earthy, romantic blend of cinnnamon, sandalwood and vetiver. Named after its creator’s childhood home, Bois de Balincourt is an ode to rural living, evoking memories of long walks through vast forests.

The scent contains top notes of sandalwood and cedarwood, followed by middle notes of vetiver, nutmeg and cinnamon and rounded off with a complex of amber.

Sol de Janeiro ‘Cheirosa 62’

In Portuguese, the word “cheirosa” is used to describe someone that smells good, and this sunny body spray is as enticing as it is vibrant. Inspired by the brand’s Brazilian roots, this fragrance’s definition of warmth is encapsulated in edible gourmand notes with faint, nostalgic hints of sandy beaches and sunscreen.

Cheirosa ‘62 contains top notes of pistachio and almond, which make way to heliotrope and jasmine petals. The fragrance dries on the skin with traces of vanilla, salted caramel and sandalwood.

Juliet Has a Gun ‘Lust For Sun’

A whiff of this sensual, feminine fragrance recalls hours spent by the poolside, basking in the sun. Described as a “solar and sexy” scent, it’s the perfect touch to ward off cloudy days. The brand recommends spraying it on top of an unscented body lotion for better longevity.

This floral-dominant, gourmand perfume has top notes of bergamot, coconut and freesia, followed by a bouquet of gardenia, monoi, orange blossom and ylang-ylang. It rounds off with a base of ambroxan, musks and vanilla.

Jo Malone ‘Vetiver & Golden Vanilla’

This enveloping perfume pays tribute to the island of Madagascar, known for two prized, highly sought-after ingredients: elegant vetiver and comforting vanilla. Its ingredients were specially hand-picked from its jungles, resulting in a delicious, fresh bouquet.

Jo Malone’s Vetiver & Golden Vanilla opens with cardamom and green tea accord. Its smoky heart note of vetiver bourbon gives way to a buttery vanilla base.

Dedcool ‘Fragrance 01/Taunt’

Some may say that this medium-bodied unisex fragrance resembles every teenager’s first perfume. Dedcool describes the experience of putting it on as “feeling like a coming-of-age movie”. With notes of milkshake and playful citrus, the scent is a daydream captured in a little bottle.

Its top notes include bergamot and fresh dew, which leads to a floral cassis heart. Its bottom notes are rounded off with vanilla and amber.

Creed ‘Carmina’

This intoxicating, amber-forward eau de parfum embodies feminine allure. Its luxurious, electric composition was crafted with the art of millésime, the labour-intensive blending of raw ingredients mostly mixed by hand.

Carmina opens with head notes of black cherry, saffron and pink pepper. Its heart notes are rose de mai, violet, cashmere wood and peony, which give way to a base of frankincense, myrrh, amber and musk.
