What

Tiny organic growers for 50 years focused on pinot noir

Where

Avenay-Val-d’Or, Vallée de la Marne; 3 hectares in Avenay and Tauxières Premiers Crus

Why

This cuvée is a tribute to Thierry Ruffin (son of Yves), who was succeeded by his wife Sylvie in 2008. The wine aged nine months in acacia barrels and was released from the cellars only ready; only 3,800 bottles were made.

What else

Look out for the Vintage Précieuse, 166 bottles made as a Brut Nature cuvée and sealed with string and wax.

Tasting Notes

The nose feels quite mature and nutty, with soft, yieldingly ripe pear fruit, winter melon, Comté and aged yellow rice wine. The palate shows a good balance of softness and firmness, with a waxy texture offsetting supple tannins and a wash of acidity that crescendos into the finish.

Try It With
