What

The Vazart family’s vine-growing dates to the 1800s; Jacques Vazart become an RM in the 1950s; current proprietor Jean-Pierre took over in 2005.

Where

Chouilly, Côte des Blancs; 11ha of vineyards, almost all chardonnay, all organically farmed.

Why

Grand Bouquet has a reputation for longevity, and is selected from the estate’s best plots. It toes the line between richness and finesse: Chouilly Grand Cru is relatively warm, producing bold, ripe chardonnay but 2013 was a cooler vintage. Stainless steel fermentation preserved fruit purity; full malo softened the acidity.

What else

Their Spécial Club is the same blend as Grand Bouquet but aged under cork instead of crown cap.

Tasting Notes

Quite toasty and rich with hazelnuts and a ripe quince, golden stone fruit character. Very vinous and round with a barley and malt back palate. Drinking very attractively now.

Try It With

Korma or makhani dishes.

When To Drink

Main course.

Perfect For

Your friend who loves Napa chardonnay.

Tatler Tip

There's a cute bubbly print on the inside of the foil capsule when you peel it off.

TL/DR

Mature, toasty and rich.
