A grower-producer since 1919 making some of the Côte des Blancs’ most age-worthy cuvées and now a small house, famous for the prestige cuvée Les Chétillons from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Côte des Blancs; 20 hectares of estate vines, all of which are chardonnay.
The wine comes exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards on chalk in Le Mesnil, Cramant, Avize and Oger. There is an unusually high level of reserve wine here, with 45% coming from a perpetual reserve of wines dating back to 1988, adding toasty complexity.
Rodolphe Péters is the artisan behind Brad Pitt’s prestige champagne project, Fleur du Miraval.
Very understated on the nose with a hard, "mineral" quality, like the scent of unglazed porcelain, hinoki cypress and a hint of yuzu fruit. The palate brings greater richness, showing the fullness of the reserves, but is charged with acidity and plump, almost dried yellow fruit. Quietly powerful and beautifully balanced, even on the palate it still feels quite closed, with substantial evolution ahead.
A delicate seafood dish, like hamachi carpaccio or raw scallops.
Apéritif or cold entrées.
The one who thinks oysters are a food group.
The "Péters" is technically pronounced "pey-TAIR" but, like "PEE-puhr HEID-zek" (Piper Heidsieck) it can sound a little forced and confusing, so if you'd rather just go with "Peters," everyone will know what you mean.
Elegant, precise and linear.
