What

An organic estate with wines produced under the Pascal Doquet label since 2004.

Where

Vertus, Côte des Blancs; 8+ ha, roughly half in the Côte des Blancs, nearly all chardonnay.

Why

This vintage-dated wine, one of the estate’s top three, is made from selected parcels of old vines in Grand Cru Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, all mid-slope and biodynamically farmed. The wines are fermented exclusively in oak casks and go through full malo to compensate for the chalky intensity of the soils.

What else

The domaine received organic certification in 2010.

Tasting Notes

Extremely fine, with luxurious notes of butter biscuit, coconut macaroon and lemon peel offset by an intriguing whiff of something animal and sweaty. The palate delivers a satisfying dollop of lemon curd, with pristine, lovely purity that reflects the vintage. The texture walks the line between friction and slip.

Try It With

Mixed tempura.

When To Drink

Apéritif.

Perfect For

Your white Burgundy collector friend.

Tatler Tip

Good to drink now but definitely one that will reward more time in bottle.

TL/DR

Fine, toasty and expensive smelling.
