What
A luxury collaboration between beverage entrepreneur Brent Hocking of DeLeón Tequila and Virginia Black Whiskey, Maison Pierre Mignon and rapper Drake.
Where
Breuil, Vallée de la Marne; vineyards span the Côte des Blancs, Marne Valley and Montagne de Reims.
Why
Though I will admit I was skeptical (the flamboyant packaging; the inevitable comparison to the Ace of Spades), the wine itself is attractively understated. With an unusually high portion of meunier made into a cold macerated, extremely pale rosé de saignée, its delicate herbal and mineral profile feels too esoteric for the club setting it’s evidently designed for. However, if you are a contemplative clubber, this could be just the cuvée for you (just make sure you demand a proper wine glass).
Tasting Notes
An intricate, detailed style with piercing lemon grass off-setting shortbread, hints of smoky ash, aromatic hay and medicinal herbs on the back palate. A sensuous, slippery texture. Acidity is not overbearing, the final cleanse comes instead from a quinine bitterness.
Try It With
Delicate crustacean dishes.
When To Drink
After meal or in a club.
Perfect For
Your clubbing friend (who appreciates quality!)
TL/DR
Delicate but smoky and sensuous.
