What

A new project in champagne started by a young couple with viticultural backgrounds: Justine (from Alsace) and François Petit-Boxler (from Avize).

Where

Avize, Côte des Blancs; vines in Avize and some Cramant and Oger, all on chalky soils.

Why

The chardonnay was planted in the 1950s by massale selection; the vineyards are alternately ploughed by tractor and horse; only 839 bottles were made of this 2014-based NV.

What else

The Petit-Boxlers make a non-vintage, a vintage and an Alsatian Pinot Blanc

Tasting Notes

Charred Meyer lemons, crystallised ginger, struck match and a hint of chicken consommé make up the nose. Medium weight on the palate with tons of classy citrus fruit packed into a tight acid and phenolic frame with a refreshing bitterness.

Try It With

Mixed tempura.

When To Drink

Apéritif

Perfect For

Your trendwatcher friend.

Tatler Tip

The bottle has a striking printed foil wrap with painterly details collaged over vineyard imagery.

TL/DR
