The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association focuses on promoting personal growth and enabling affected individuals to complete vocational training and find employment. Recently the association has increased its campaigning for people with Down syndrome and other disabilities to be more fully included in society.
The association offers centres and support services for children with Down syndrome and their families, as well as services focused on the health issues faced by adults with intellectual disabilities.
The association has a training centre and employment services centre, and an on-the-job training programme. Its social enterprise, the Down’s Kwan Ngai Service Team, helps people with Down syndrome work in jobs, including packaging and car washing.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Victoria Tang-Owen is currently president of the association. Her late father, David Tang, held the post for 24 years.
