One of the oldest grower producers in the Côte des Bar, founded in 1935 and still family owned and operated.
Gyé-sur-Seine, Côte des Bar; 9 hectares, mainly pinot noir with 15% chardonnay.
Blanc de Blancs is somewhat atypical for the Côte des Bar, which is more pinot country; however, neighbouring Chablis is known for the production of steely, fine chardonnay. No effort has been spared here, with the stainless steel-fermented wines resting on their lees for over 8 years in bottle.
Most the estate’s wines are pinot-dominant, reflecting the typical style of the Côte des Bar.
Lemon blossom, citron sorbet and buttered toast emerge in sequence, gradually becoming more brothy and savoury. A crisp salinity and a powerful jolt of lemon iced tea flavour on the front are followed by honeyed sweetness. The texture feels thick and slow, even though acidity is quite fresh. An appealing tonic bitterness appears to brace the finish and then finally some meaty yeast notes emerge. Nicely balanced.
Sweeter, pungent seafood dishes like crab or braised abalone.
Entrées.
The friend whose favourite drinks all involve citrus.
Balanced between floral, toasty and savoury notes.
