Duval-Leroy Bouzy Grand Cru Extra Brut 2007

A substantial house in the Côte des Blancs that has refocused on quality under the leadership of Carol Duval-Leroy

What

A substantial house founded in 1859 in the Côte des Blancs that has refocused on quality under the leadership of Carol Duval-Leroy starting in 1991.

Where

Vertus, Côte des Blancs; 200ha of estate vineyards, mainly in the Côte des Blancs Premier Cru Vertus, covering about 1/3 of their production.

Why

The Précieuse Parcelles cuvées, introduced in 2016, add an element of site-specificity to the house’s quality focus. The grapes are organically cultivated and the wine is vinified entirely in oak barrels. Only 3,960 bottles were made.

What else

Check out the other Précieuses Parcelles like Cumières, plus the varietal Petit Meslier – austere and mineral – one of the only champagnes being made purely from this historical variety

Tasting Notes

An attractive torrefaction (hazelnut pastry, brown biscuits) garnishes a meaty, savoury nose along with murmurs of red fruit. The mousse is creamy and mature, complementing a lightly oily texture that solidifies to a powdery finish. Re-tasting reveals a rich, toasty palate fattened with plum jelly, dried apricot and quince.

Try It With

Crispy roast poultry with savoury sauces.

When To Drink

After meal.

Perfect For

A wine lovers' gathering.

TL/DR

Nutty, meaty and appetisingly mature.
