A comparatively new grower in the Côte des Bar growing pinot vines on Kimmeridgian clay plots
A comparatively new grower (from 2006) narrowly focused on single-site pinot noir.
Ville-sur-Arce, Côte des Bar; their monopole is a 3.5ha vineyard called Largillier with Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils.
This cuvée adds a sensuous layer of toasty oak to dense, ripe pinot, lifting and defining rather than burying the wine’s distinctiveness. The vines are 30+ years old.
Coessens is especially proud of his soils, which he likens to those of Grand Cru Chablis.

Intense but refined perfume of cedar, pine, bergamot, verbena and cinnamon sticks in piping hot apple cider. Similar flavours comprise the palate, adding a layer of spruce and cola. The mousse still feels quite bombastic. Body is surprisingly moderate for the flavour concentration, acidity is quite mild.
Rich, meaty western Chinese dishes.
