What

A biodynamic, organic and vegan grower estate founded in 1985 by Bruno Michel, son of well-known grower José Michel.

Where

Pierry, Coteaux Sud d’Épernay; 12ha of vineyards in 35+ parcels are spread between Pierry and Moussy, mainly located on attractive mid-slopes.

Why

Michel has practised biodynamic agriculture since 1998 and the estate is vegan and Ecocert organic since 2004. The average vine age is over 40 years and yields are low. The grapes for this wine come from a single Meunier plot, making it an unusual 100 per cent Meunier rosé. The saignée was done with comparatively short maceration so it is delicate in aromas and texture.

What else

Bruno Michel started a vine nursery in the 1980s before founding the estate with his wife in 1985.

Tasting Notes

A spice and herb salad of coriander, tomato leaves, mace, green mango and pink guava. The juicy mid-palate retains a stemmy green note, something like fresh sugar cane. Medium in weight—neither markedly acidic, textural nor bitter—and finishes clean and satisfying despite a fairly lightweight structure.

Try It With

Thai and Vietnamese herb and raw vegetable-driven dishes; Vegetable or lentil curries.
