The bank continuously strives to help clients make their assets work for them—as well as the planet

LGT Private Banking has long combined innovation and responsibility in its investments. Nowhere is this more evident than in its approach to sustainable investing.

An early adopter of sustainable investing, with its commitment stemming from the core values of the princely family of Liechtenstein who owns it, LGT Private Banking has emphasised sustainability for more than 15 years. Not only does the bank provide a suite of sustainable investment solutions across different asset classes, but its ESG Cockpit also offers clients access to proprietary analysis tools to help them meet their own sustainability goals.

One such tool is the LGT Sustainability Rating, which helps to increase transparency in sustainable investments and prevent greenwashing. The tool produces ratings for companies based on a range of factors, including raw ESG data from recognised providers, information on the company’s CO2 emissions, use of resources as well as any relevant public controversies and its contribution to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The rating system currently covers more than 8,500 companies and 197 countries and territories. The LGT Sustainability Rating can also be applied to funds, ETFs and clients’ portfolios.

Meanwhile, its partner company Lightrock connects investors with impact investments that make a positive difference to people and the planet, in areas such as healthcare, education, the circular economy and renewable energy. It also offers private banking clients opportunities in private equity that are normally only accessible to institutional investors.

LGT’s commitment to the environment does not end with helping clients choose intelligent investments. Through its Sustainability Strategy 2030—aligned with the SDGs—it aims to integrate sustainability into all areas of its business. Its net zero 2030 strategy involves cutting its own carbon emissions and investing in carbon removal, with its agreement with Swiss company Climeworks set to remove 9,000 metric tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere over the next 10 years. Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein, chairman of LGT says “supporting innovative companies that have promising technologies is an integral part of [our] fight against climate change. Our long-term partnership with Climeworks is a further step in that direction”.

Today, generating a financial return isn’t enough. LGT helps investors contribute to sustainable development by prioritising risk, return and impact.
