Move over, England: all the single ladies have jumped ship to Brunei Darussalam
Ever since the Windsor brothers—Prince William and Prince Harry—have disappeared from the eligible bachelors’ list, single women have scoured the world for another prince to swoon over—and they have found him in Prince ‘Abdul Mateen. So, aside from the aforementioned qualities, what makes him special? Check out our list below and see for yourself.
Familial Bonds
HRH Abdul Mateen ibni Hassanal Bolkiah is the sixth in line to his father’s throne—and his father just happens to be Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam. Out of the Sultan’s 12 children from his three wives, Prince Mateen is closest to his blood-related older brother and two sisters. Last year, all four and their mum gathered at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies for his Master’s in Arts degree-conferring ceremony.
Working Hard…

Other than keeping busy with his princely and stately duties, the Prince is also on active duty in the military. In 2011, Prince Mateen graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK. Notable alumni from the academy include Prince William, Prince Harry, and his own father, who witnessed the prince getting his first military rank. As of last year, he’s been promoted to the rank of acting captain in the Bruneian army.
…And Playing even Harder

During his spare time at home, Prince Mateen plays with tiger cubs and his guitar. When travelling around the globe, he can be spotted skiing, playing polo, sunbathing and many other outdoor pursuits. Other sports he enjoys include football—he once joined the Bruneian team AM Gunners—badminton, in which he competed nationally, and scuba diving, which he learned about from his adopted brothers and earned a PADI Open Water Certification.
