To celebrate the launch of its refreshed proposition for Premier clients, HSBC brought together three experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities of financial empowerment
Planning for retirement is a crucial endeavour, yet it often proves to be daunting for even the most financially-savvy individuals.
In the inaugural HSBC Quality of Life report, which interviewed over 2,250 individuals across nine markets including China, UAE, UK, US, Malaysia, and Singapore,
over half of respondents expect to continue working post-retirement. Their main motivation? Many feel woefully unprepared despite already saving for this later stage of life, due to the rising cost of living and the financial implications of longer lifespans.
And that is where HSBC comes in. The bank is on a mission to provide a comprehensive suite of wealth and insurance products that offer protection and peace of mind to help empower its clients to become more financially confident and navigate the different stages of life.
“Knowledge is power. Our goal is to equip our customers with the financial tools and resources as they work towards financial well-being and build financial resilience," said Ashmita Acharya, HSBC’s head of wealth and personal banking, Singapore. “Financial education is a critical part of this equation and this is why we want to create simplicity around it.”

With financial empowerment at the forefront of its agenda, HSBC recently held an exclusive event to celebrate the launch of its refreshed proposition, HSBC Premier Wealth. With over 80 clients and employees in attendance, the evening kicked off with a welcome speech by Acharya.
“We’ve noticed what stops our clients from making wealth decisions is a certain inertia and hesitance. Sometimes, it is because we don’t feel confident from a knowledge standpoint, or ready to take that step to start planning for our future,” she said.
To accompany their clients in their wealth journey, HSBC has expanded its offering to meet client needs with “the right content, tools, and capabilities.” Case in point: it has partnered up with financial education platform Sophia to create a programme centred around financial investment literacy.
“Sophia makes financial education easy and digestible with bite-sized information that resonates with our clients,” said Acharya. “It’s not about bank speak—it’s about client speak.”
In her short introductory address, Christine Yu, co-founder of Sophia, emphasised the platform’s core mission to deliver “inspiring, engaging, and empowering content.” She added: “Because let’s face it, the topic of money is not always these things.” With Sophia’s mission of empowering individuals in wealth creation through transformational financial education, Yu invited the audience to “learn, invest, and change the world” through this partnership, adding: “We are so excited to be doing this to empower a generation of investors through HSBC Premier Wealth.”

The highlight of the event was a panel discussion on the topic Empowering You, Empowering Your Wealth. Acharya was joined onstage by Nicole Denholder, co-founder of Sophia, and Crystal Lim-Lange, co-founder and chief executive officer of Forest Wolf, to tackle topics ranging from female entrepreneurship to money mindsets, coping with financial loss, and of course, investing.
The panel discussion was certainly an illuminating one as the three esteemed panellists delved deep into their long, illustrious careers in banking and finance to share their expert insights, personal anecdotes, and advice on how to navigate the world of investment with confidence.
After the panel discussion, it was time to mark the official relaunch of HSBC Premier Wealth. Jeffrey Yap, head of investments and wealth solutions, Southeast Asia, HSBC global private banking & wealth; Alice Fok, head of customer, international and marketing; Roy Phua, global head of premier and retail business banking proposition; and Faye Tan, head of customer propositions & life cycle management, joined Acharya on stage for a rousing champagne sabrage.
The evening was not over yet: the conversation continued off-stage, where guests mingled with the HSBC Premier team and perused HSBC’s interactive content library while enjoying a selection of cocktails and canapés. To make the event extra memorable, Idea Ink sketched caricatures of guests on an impressive 3-metre long mural, while guests were presented with personalised HSBC Orchid-scented luxury soy candles as take-home gifts.
