The American heiress, who's estimated to be worth US$200 million, gave almost her entire fortune to her youngest son, Anderson Cooper

When Anderson Cooper’s mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, passed away in June, he likely wasn’t expecting an inheritance.

“My mom’s made clear to me that there’s no trust fund. There’s none of that,” Cooper told Howard Stern in a 2014 interview. The American railroad heiress died at 95 from stomach cancer.

But the New York Post reports that the CNN anchor will be receiving almost all of Vanderbilt’s estate, while her eldest son Leopold Stokowski will inherit her New York apartment. According to the report, Vanderbilt’s net worth is estimated at US$200 million thanks to her sizeable inheritance and the money she made from her eponymous denim line in the 1980s.

Based on Cooper’s previous interviews, he’s never relied on his family lineage to support himself. The Los Angeles Times reports that Cooper’s net worth is estimated to be at US$100 million before the inheritance.

"I think [inheritance is] an initiative sucker. I think it's a curse," he told Stern. "From the time I was growing up, if I felt that there was some pot of gold waiting for me, I don't know that I would've been so motivated."
