Entrepreneurs Danny Yeung and Dennis Lo tell Tatler about their new ground-breaking joint venture Insighta, and why they represent Standard Chartered’s spirit of exploration
Award-winning scientist Dennis Lo and entrepreneur Danny Yeung, two leading innovators in their fields, joined forces earlier this year with the launch of Insighta, a joint venture that’s set to revolutionise early cancer detection.
Joining Yeung’s ground-breaking Prenetics—which has become one of the world’s leading genetic testing companies since its launch in 2014—the new initiative will harness cutting-edge technology developed by Lo, a global expert in non-invasive prenatal testing. The company hopes to introduce its first lung and liver cancer tests in Hong Kong in 2025, with the aim of making early cancer detection affordable and accessible to as many people as possible.
“We plan to focus on Asia at the moment, and potentially expand to the Middle East at a later stage,” says Lo. “In terms of the technology, we’ll continue to improve the diagnostic performance of the test, and broaden the tumour types for which the test can be used.”
At the core of the new venture is its two co-founders’ heartfelt passion for exploration—a driving force which has come to define both Lo and Yeung’s lives. Serial entrepreneur Yeung started working as a telemarketer at age 15, and founded his first business, in the F&B industry, when he was 25.
“You really have to be passionate about what you do and be resilient to embark on your own journey of exploration,” says Yeung. “It’s not a straight path upwards. There’s a lot of low, lonely moments that no one can see. But if you’re resilient and believe in what you do, then ultimately things will work out.”
Lo, on the other hand, has devoted his whole career to scientific exploration. “I see it as a journey to being the first to explore, to learn, to discover,” he says. “I look at that as an enormous privilege. This drive has always been in my heart, and I’ll continue to follow it.”
Through their perpetual pursuit of innovation in their work, Yeung and Lo rely on Standard Chartered’s loyal support. “I’m a scientist by training, so I need a guide to support my initiatives,” says Lo.
