You May Soon Be Able to Mint NFTs on Instagram

Get ready to see these digital collectables everywhere “in the near term”, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg

Bitcoin, the Metaverse and NFTs are all words that have popped up in the last few years and don't seem to be going away anytime soon.

Now, be prepared for NFTs to take over the cyberspace with the announcement that Mark Zuckerberg will be bringing the digital collectables to Instagram “in the near term”.

“We’re working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term,” said the founder of Facebook, now called Meta, at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2022 on Tuesday. SXSW is a conference and festival that sees leaders and industry professionals like Zuckerberg converge to discuss important breakthroughs and innovations in technology, film, music, education, and culture.

However, Zuckerberg did not reveal exactly how the social media app will be incorporating the blockchain-powered collectables. “I’m not ready to kind of announce exactly what that’s going to be today. But over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment,” he continued.

NFTs are something that Zuckerberg and other top tech companies have long been expressing their interest in. In December last year, Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, said in a post on his Instagram Stories that the platform was trying to incorporate NFTs.

"Nothing to announce yet but we are definitely actively exploring NFTs and how we can make them more accessible to a broader audience," he said.

At the conference, Zuckerberg also added that NFTs could one day play a role in his company’s metaverse.

“I would hope that you know, the clothing that your avatar is wearing in the metaverse, you know, can be basically minted as an NFT and you can take it between your different places,” he said.

“There’s like a bunch of technical things that need to get worked out before that’ll really be seamless to happen,” he continued.

With the way NFTs are skyrocketing in popularity, we have no doubt that Zuckerberg will find a way to make this happen and we are certainly ready for it.
